Hey Gang,

One of my firefighters, or should I say former firefighters, I am not technically their Captain any more, anyhow, one of their wives wrote a fireman’s book for kids. It’s called Bill McGee.  It talks about the firefighters and fire prevention in addition she is giving 25% of the proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project. I don’t usually do this, but it’s for two good causes, The Wounded Warriors and kids learning prevention.  There is a link below to her web site.
Let me know what you think on this.

LIVE TRAINING

Any department on Long Island, Connecticut or the remainder of New England, with a training (burn) facility, please contact us to set up a live burn training session.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 11am, at The Connecticut State Fire Academy

Our training session on October 8th at The State Fire Academy went absolutly perfect.

All visiting chiefs and guests in attendance were amazed with the performance of the FIT 5.

The fire was knocked down and the temp dropped from over 1000 degrees to under 200 degrees within 30 seconds.

Those chiefs and guests in attendance can vouch for the products usefulness as an additional tool in our arsenol.

Although my words are totally credible, the MOST credible thoughts/comments will come from those CT ff's who were present.

Please read comments from those present below;

William Fitzmaurice,        Hamden FD

How did the device perform with regards to the actual fire?

"The fire was knocked down and almost completely extinguished."

How did they device perform with regards to the internal temperature?
"The internal temp dropped significantly, several hundred degrees."

Did the device not only knock the fire down, but did it succeed in "buying time"?

"By knocking down the fire and dropping the internal temps significantly it gives firefighters extra time to get hand lines in place and secure a water supply making the offensive operations safer. "

Timothy Baldwin,             Chief

time."

Did the device not only knock the fire down, but did it succeed in "buying
time"?

"    Absolutely!!!   And that's what my department needs
is an extra few minutes."

Can you see a positive use for this device within the fire service?

"  Again - absolutely!!   Not every fire but if the conditions are
right, it would work well."

Would you recommend the FIT-5 to your own and surrounding fire
departments?

"  Yes, already have.  We will be looking to get

Butler Rotary Club Donates Innovative FIT-5 Fire Knockdown Device to Bloomingdale, Butler and Kinnelon Fire Departments

Powerful New Technology Gives Local Departments a New Way to Approach Fire Fighting

Rotary Club

BLOOMINGDALE, NJ--(Marketwire - September 4, 2008) - Top city officials from Bloomingdale, Butler and Kinnelon volunteer fire departments gathered on August 25, at the Bloomingdale Fire Department where The Butler Rotary Club presented their donation of FIT-5s to each department.

ARA Safety's FIT-5 is a handheld fire suppression device that is being recognized by communities as a valuable supplementary tool helping career and volunteer firefighters across North America save lives and dramatically reduce property loss. During the event, an ARA Safety product trainer walked the group through a presentation of the device and how it can be used by each fire department.

"Our communities have a long tradition of working together to keep our citizens safe," said Mike Wanklan, Passaic County Deputy Fire Coordinator. "When fighting fires, a few minutes can mean the difference between life and death. I believe the FIT-5 will help first responders on the scene of a fire buy time until our full crew arrives, giving us a better chance to save lives and property."

The Mayors from Bloomingdale, Kinnelon, and Butler were in attendance, joined by Fire Chiefs and Rotary Club members from each respective city.

Charlie Ebers, President of The Butler Rotary Club, made the decision to purchase three FIT-5s for his local fire departments after hearing the tool was successfully used to contain a basement fire in West Milford, New Jersey. "I was immediately interested in equipping our community departments with the FIT-5 after I heard how well it worked in West Milford. The device will enhance our current fire fighting tactics, giving our departments a new way to approach fire fighting and ultimately help keep our citizens safe."

The West Milford fire was the third deployment over the last seven months in the New York / New Jersey region. In December 2007, the FIT-5 was credited with saving buildings and lives following a third floor house fire in Port Jervis, New York; in April 2008, the FIT-5 helped contain the West Milford basement fire; and in July, 2008, the device was credited with helping to extinguish another basement fire in Shelter Island, New York.

Michael Gardiner, director of marketing for ARA Safety, said, "With the additions of Bloomingdale, Butler and Kinnelon, 37 fire departments on the East Coast are now fully equipped to use the FIT-5. We're thrilled to see that an increasing number of communities recognize the unique human and financial impacts of this technology."

3rd U.S. Deployment on Shelter Island, NY

New technology suppressed basement fire, allowing for less time and water needed to fight fire

Working basement fire @ 1847 hours, Sunday 6/29 on Shelter Island.

First chief on scene encountered a basement fire, he deployed a FIT-5 device.

Fire was knocked down, first due engine arrived quickly, went to work and fully EXTINGUISHED the fire.

ARA Safety Inc.: Home in Prominent Shelter Island, New York Ablaze; Saved by the FIT-5 Fire Fighting Device

July 2, 2008 2:27 PM EDT

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 2, 2008) - ARA Safety Inc. -

As the first firefighter to arrive at the Shelter Island, New York house fire, Shelter Island Fire Department First Assistant Fire Chief William Rowland made a decision that likely saved the burning home - he used ARA Safety's FIT-5, a new handheld fire interruption device that quickly knocked down a basement fire and protected the home from potentially being engulfed in flames.

The FIT-5 is gaining recognition as a supplementary tool in aiding fire fighters in challenging interior fires, including basement fires. This is the third FIT-5 deployment over the last seven months in the New York / New Jersey region.

In December 2007, the FIT-5 was credited with saving buildings and lives following a third floor house fire in Port Jervis, New York; and in May 2008, a fire department in West Milford, New Jersey, put out a basement fire by using the FIT-5. Currently, 23 fire departments in the East Coast are equipped to use the FIT-5 to extinguish structure fires, similar to the Shelter Island basement fire.

"Basement fires are uniquely difficult and dangerous to fight. This can be further amplified in areas like Shelter Island where there is limited access to water," said Michael Gardiner, ARA Safety Director of Marketing. "ARA Safety's FIT-5 can be an especially important tool in the toolbox in these circumstances."

At the Shelter Island fire, First Assistant Fire Chief Rowland kicked down the basement door and activated the FIT-5 which emitted a non-toxic aerosol powder that quickly suppressed the basement fire - which originated in an electrical panel - and decreased the amount of water required to fight the fire.

"As the first to respond, I had limited resources and time to extinguish the fire," said Rowland. "The FIT-5 knocked down the fire prevented its spread, and bought five minutes until 32 volunteers from my department arrived at the scene."

Rowland and his volunteers remained at the scene for 1.5 hours and used only 250 gallons of water to fully extinguish the fire as opposed to 750 - 1000 gallons that would have normally been used.

"Without the FIT-5, we would have required at least three more hours to fully extinguish the fire. The FIT-5 saved the home and made interior attack safe," said Rowland.

Brian Lynch, owner of US Fire Tech Corp., the ARA Authorized Dealer that provided the unit to Shelter Island Fire Department said that he is proud to have played a role in protecting a home.

Update:

Insurance Company Pays for FIT-5 Deployed Against Basement Fire in West Milford

Two weeks ago, a Jefferson Township Chief deployed a FIT-5 to knock down a basement fire in neighboring West Milford, NJ, while on a mutual aid call.

Today, we learned that Jefferson FD Chief Andrew Schmidt has persuaded the home owner's insurance company to reimburse the entire cost of the FIT-5 to the department.

"Preserving Life, Property and the

Volunteer Fire Service"

US Fire Tech will act as your liaison to assist and insure that the maximum amount of reimbursement is received from the homeowners insurance carrier for reimbursement of a qualified FIT deployment in a fire event.

"As the first to respond, I had limited resources and time to  extinguish the fire," said Rowland. "The FIT-5 knocked down the fire and prevented its spread, and bought five minutes until 32 volunteers from my department arrived at the scene."

“The department carries the Fit 5 devices in the chief’s car”

“The FIT-5 saved the home and made interior attack safe”

“It works. It was perfect,” Mr. Rowland said

The Suffolk County Arson Crew came out to make their evaluation, as they do with all fires, according to Mr. Rowland. “They were very impressed. Structural damage was kept to a minimum, water damage was kept to a minimum and smoke damage was kept to a minimum.”
